TomTom POIs

While TomTom has a bunch of these points of interest in their TomTom Home, it takes forever to download them. “TomTom Forums”:http://www.tomtomforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33 makes it way easier, just download the file and then copy the files onto your TomTom into the directory /North America. There should be a .ov2 file and .bmp file for each one as explained in the “guide”:http://www.tomtomforums.com/showthread.php?t=2640

There are also gigantic sites “listed”:http://www.tomtomforums.com/showthread.php?t=6056 such as “GPS-Data-TEam.com”:http://tomtom.gps-data-team.com that seems to have data everywhere. For instance, here are all the “Starbucks”:http://tomtom.gps-data-team.com/bulk_fly.php?convert=Starbucks-US&name=Starbucks-US

My favorites have to be “US Speed Traps”:http://www.gps-data-team.com/poi/united_states/safety/Speed_Trap.html and “Red Light Cameras”:http://www.gps-data-team.com/poi/united_states/safety/Red_Light_Camera_us.html

You can also ask for all points of interest in a given “location”:http://www.gps-data-team.com/map/index.php?lat=47.6301&lon=-122.2971&zoom=8 and map, so you can see everything in say Seattle.

Another site is “TomTom POI Forums”:http://www.tomtomforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=14 which has other like Wamu locations.
