Ricoh GX200

September 6th, 2008 · No Comments · Photography

Ricoh really pioneered the idea of a high end compact camera that could actually take good pictures. Photographyblog.com has a good review. Note there is also the Ricoh GR Digital II which is essentially the same but with a fixed 28mm lense. It’s pricey at $600, but it is a high end camera.

  • 111mm x 58mm x 25mm so it is reasonably compact.
  • 24-72 f2.5-f4.4 lense. This btw is one the great advantages of the Panasonic DMC-LX3 which is F2 to F/2.8 so way faster.
  • 12 MP 1/1.7 inch sensor or 15mm sensor
  • Jpeg and RAW in standard DNG format (yeah!)
  • 2.7” LCD screen and the full range of exposure controls
  • Optical stabilization and you can get an electronic viewfinder as an accessory

Image quality wise, it is perfect at ISO 200 but there is obvious noise at ISO 400 so in that way the Lumix is probably slightly better. You can turn up the sharpening a little for JPEGs.
