Window Fans and Swamp Coolers

July 24th, 2006 · No Comments · House

Well its been hot in Seattle and no breeze, so off to find a Window fan, since it gets to 65 outside, but our house just won’t cool down:

  • Air King 16 inch Window Fan. $100, but you need 19” high Windows. Could be good for top floors. It is 25.5” long, so you need a pretty long window.
  • Honeywell HW-628 Twin Window Fan. This is a medium heigh one that requires about 12 vertical inches. Amazon is having a sale right now where these are $32 with $25 off if you buy $125 worth of stuff. Pretty good deal.
  • Honeywell HW-300 Window Fan Amazon also has these lower fans too. These are just 5” high so good if you don’t some gigantic fan thing stuck in your window.
  • Also there are these cool things call Swamp Coolers and there is a good list on Air-n-water and it is a nice looking site. There is a $128 cooler that does 200 square feet (a single big room). Interesting to try for $128 and it uses little more than a fan. You do need to have low humidity though, so it won’t work in the deep south, but normally here in Seattle, it doesn’t get humid, it just gets hot.
