Barbarossa is a pretty amazing spot. We had lunch there but it is clearly a great place to see and be seen. It is right in the middle of People’s Park (???although the address is actyuall on Nanjing Xi Lu, it is really right in the middle of the park and is surrounded by a pond (bring mosquito repellent in the summer!).
The decor is Morrocan and they definitely have the bands and so forth at night. During the day though, it is mainly a hangout for European tourists for some reason. Try the weekend brunch. The pancakes are really like cakes and taste great without the orange marmalade they give you place of maple syrup. Also the pasta is surprisingly good there. Anyway a fun place for lunch when you are wandering down the shopping mecca that is Nanjing Xi Lu.
