Sad comment, Visualhub based on ffmpeg worked great. I gladly paid for it. Now, I guess its off to find another product. The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)
VisualHub is gone. There are no current plans to move VisualHub to open source. The underlying engine for much of the compression magic, ffmpeg, is already open-source and present in [...]

Excel 2008 bugs make it useless for loans and private equity
August 27th, 2008 · No Comments · Geek
Wow, I can’t believe Microsoft would ship a product like this. Beware, Excel 2008 won’t recalc XIRR correctly and in fact any sheet that has an intentional reference where loan amounts have fees that are dependent. This has worked in versions of Excel for the last 20 years. So sad, it means that Excel 2008 [...]

Appigo
August 27th, 2008 · No Comments · Geek
Appigo ToDo was recommended by John. He is right. It is a terrific To Do list manager and it syncs up into the cloud. I’ve normally used Outlook’s Notes to do this between PC and Blackberry (for free!), but iPhone doesn’t support notes nor does Mac Mail and so there is no sync into the [...]

iPhone 2.0.1?
July 19th, 2008 · No Comments · Geek
Well now that things are out on the iPhone, the collection of bugs come. The most severe are crashing third party apps. Looks like you have to reinstall them, but eventually they stop working (emmory leak I bet). Same for the whole system, you have to turn off and reset (another memory leak)

Which RAW converter to use? DxO 5.1?
June 22nd, 2008 · No Comments · Digital Darkroom
I’ve been using DxO v4.5 with good results but the problem is that DxO 5.0 remains quite unstable. In a side-by-side comparison, Lightroom came off as the most decent, but it doesn’t have distortion correction. Almost means I have to stick with Canon’s own DPP which has distortion correction.
Apparently DxO 5.1 is now out and [...]

Kerio vs. Exchange for Entourage, Mac OS X, iPhone and Blackberry
April 19th, 2008 · No Comments · Entourage, Exchange
Well we’ve narrowed down choices to two choices, two hosters against one of three desktop and two mobile clients. Here are the parameters:
Support for either of, in order:
Mac OS X application. That is Mail, iCal and Address Book that are native to OS X and which is fast.
Entourage 2004 or 2008 from Microsoft and typically [...]
