Google actually has a contact system built into Google Mail. These are used just about everywhere, but most importantly you can use Google to synchronize contacts in Mac Address Book, iPhone and maybe even the Blackberry.

This is the single biggest problem I’ve found with Entourage to iCal synchronization. Entourage sync is incredibly slow on Leopard to the calendar, but more importantly, with the iPhone hooked in, you get zillions of duplicates.
